This is a short interview with Hitchcock himself in which he discusses how to master tension cinematically.   he discusses  the idea of the bomb under the table. if a bomb goes of it creates shock, but if the characters or just the audience is aware of a bomb, they then tensely wait for the bomb to detonate.
